Sustainable Food Wrap Alternatives

Single-use food storage products are some of the biggest contributors to waste world-wide. Plastic wrap, single-use bags, and aluminum foil are all detrimental to the environment. While there is some small hope that some aluminum foil can be recycled (it must be 100% clean and a solid, large piece), there is no hope of recycling plastic cling wrap or plastic baggies. Studies have repeatedly shown how single-use plastic items are infiltrating and blocking water ways, harm land and sea creatures, and end up breaking down into micro plastics that we, in turn, ingest. Plastic pollution is no longer some distant environmental issue that does not impact our daily lives: it is here, on our doorstep. The year is 2021 and each of us is ingesting roughly a credit card’s worth of plastic, weekly. We need to care about reducing our plastic waste not just for the planet, but for our own health.
